Private vs. Public

Important information to understand:
If you are a TriMet employee it is important to understand the difference between what is public and what is Private. TriMet maintains strong policies that are designed to protect TriMet from harm that an employee could inflict upon them. These policies are able to reach the employee outside of the work place and in to the employee’s public and social life. These policies are not allowed to enter the employee’s private life as long as the person’s actions are legal.

So what is public?
A public area is a location where access is not limited. This includes the internet. If a TriMet employee is able to be identified as a TriMet employee that person can be held accountable for any policy violations.

So what is private?
A private area is a location where access is limited. This includes the internet that requires a user name and password to grant access. TriMet policies are not able to enter in an employee’s private areas as long as laws are not being violated.

When a TriMet employee post on the public side of the internet it is just like holding a large sign up right in front of the main office. If the TriMet employee maintains a private internet site TriMet must not violate the person’s privacy. TriMet management is not able to walk freely in to and employee’s home without being invited.

The above information is important to understand so that you can avoid a chance of disciplinary actions TriMet might try to take upon you for a posting. I will be working on this information more so that you can have a better understanding of ways to protect your privacy. Please keep watching for more information about this and when you post in public please follow all laws and TriMet policies.

Here is a video to help give you a better idea. This video is almost 30 min long and it is very informative about employee’s posting on the internet.
